What Is iMovie?

iMovie is an easy-to-use digital video editing application. You can use iMovie to produce movies composed of video clips, still pictures, audio clips, transitions, and text. In this course, you'll use a digital video (DV) camcorder to shoot the video clips, connect the camera to your computer using a FireWire connection, and edit the clips into a movie. You'll then export the movie back to your DV camera and to a QuickTime file that you can publish in a presentation or on a Web page.

iMovie sets up an environment that is user friendly and intuitive. It uses plain English commands and familiar drag-and-drop actions to move items around. The Balloon Help feature and the electronic help system are available if you get confused. This course helps you become familiar with iMovie at a beginner level.

In this course, you will learn how to produce a short movie that includes video, still pictures, audio, titles, transitions, and effects. View the movie below to see an example of an iMovie project.

Do this:

Click the Play button, the right-facing arrow at the bottom-left of the movie window, to begin the movie.
