Teaching Practice:
Mitosis in Cyberspace

INTRODUCTION

In 1999, I was one of the first four teachers in my county to achieve National Board Certification. My area of certification is AYA/Science and I teach Biology, Chemistry, and Physical Science at Latta High School in Ada, Oklahoma.

Latta is in a school system where expectations are high for both students and teachers alike. Although we are a small K-12 school system, we have exceptional technology available to our students and faculty. A 28-station computer lab is available for teachers to use with their classes. In my classroom, we have 13 laptop computers and five PCs which students use for a multitude of purposes. These laptops are wirelessly connected to the internet and can be linked to probeware for use in data collection in laboratory activities. I routinely utilize an LCD projector and animated PowerPoint™ presentations while teaching new concepts.
