Teaching Practice:
Foster's Fantastic Frog Pond

INTRODUCTION

I am a National Board Certfied Teacher certified in 1999 as an Early Childhood Generalist. I have 12 boys and 8 girls in my second grade class. My class size is small because I am in a trailer due to lack of space in the school building. I have seven African American students, one East Indian student, one Hispanic student, and 11 Caucasian students. All of my students speak English fluently. Two students are currently being tested for learning disabilities. Two other students are seen 30 minutes a day, two times a week, for speech therapy. One child receives adaptive physical education instruction for 30 minutes per week.

General Greene is a public school that offers a magnet program in science and technology. Approximately 75% of our students are from all over Guilford County. The other 25% of our students come from the neighborhoods surrounding our school. Students are chosen through a lottery system for the magnet program. General Greene is the most popular magnet school in our district and has to turn away many students each year due to lack of space. It is an exciting place to work.
