Teaching Practice:
Energy Explorations

INTRODUCTION

I received National Board Certification in the Middle Childhood/ Generalist certificate area in 1999. I teach third grade at Crawfordville Elementary in Wakulla County, Florida.

Crawfordville Elementary is a public school serving kindergarten though 5th grades. We have approximately 650 students. I have 25 students in my class. Most of these students have been together in this school since kindergarten. Many of their parents and grandparents also attended this school, making it a close-knit community.

Seventy-five percent of Wakulla County is USDA Forest Service land. Seafood and forestry are the only industries in our county. Development is limited. Most students’ parents work in the neighboring town of Tallahassee, the state capital and a university town.

There are twelve boys and thirteen girls in my class. Three students attend a special education resource room for help with specific learning disabilities. One student participates in the gifted and talented program. All students are mainstreamed into the regular classroom with modifications as needed.
