Teaching Practice:
Photographing Geometry

INTRODUCTION

I am a teacher in the Learning Lab at Eustis Heights Elementary School in Central Florida. Our school has a population of about 900 students and a staff of 115. We are a “magnet” school, drawing students from neighboring communities for Exceptional Student Education, such as gifted, varying exceptionalities, pre-kindergarten handicapped and other programs. My school serves students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, with students from all racial and ethnic backgrounds. It is a Title I school, with a kindergarten through third grade special reading program. Our local economy is primarily agricultural with a large population of retired residents.

The class featured in this exhibit is a second grade class of twenty-five students. The Learning Lab is a new addition to our school. My role at the school is to support the classroom teachers in reinforcing skills such as mathematics, reading and writing. I provide students with many hands-on activities that are geared to their various learning styles by providing a variety of thought-provoking experiences.
