Biodiversity and Conservation: The Web of Life
To increase awareness of biodiversity, The Field Museum is dedicating this school year as "The Year of Biodiversity and Conservation." Join nine scientists from the Field Museum as they share their exciting discoveries, explore some of the underlying reasons for and questions about biodiversity and tackle some of the problems and threats facing biodiversity.
Project E.R. (Environmental Rescue)
In this learning adventure, join expeditions to three ecosystems where Field Museum scientists are working to understand and conserve biodiversity. While visiting sites in Ecuador, Kenya, and the United States, learn about balancing the needs of people with those of the broader ecosystems in which they live.
This Old Habitat
Just what is a habitat and how can its natural evolution be recognized, protected, and, when necessary, restored? In this learning adventure, travel to various sites in The Field Museum's home state to learn about habitats under siege and those undergoing restoration thanks to the Museum and concerned citizens.
Science in Action for Conservation
Watch how scientists and communities can work together to conserve biodiversity in this learning adventure. Go from the remote mountains of Peru's Cordillera Azul where teams are working to preserve an untouched biological treasure, to Calumet on the Illinois shore of Lake Michigan where groups are working to preserve the astonishing biodiversity living in the shadows of city smokestacks. Then learn how to get involved in conservation through the UrbanWatch program.
Surveying Costa Rican Mushrooms
Follow an international team led by mycologist and Field Museum Botany Department Chair Dr. Greg Mueller through Costa Rican tropical forests as they discover and describe the beauty, richness, distribution, and ecological importance of mushrooms and related fungi in this neotropical paradise. Track the team’s progresses with the interactive expedition map and find out more about marvelous mushrooms with specialized lesson plans.
