Voices of the Future for APEC
60 Pacific Rim students produce iMovie and TV interviews with leaders at 2002 APEC meetings in Los Cabos, Mexico.
Voices of the Future for APEC brought together 60 Pacific Rim students to produce a special multimedia interview program at this year’s annual Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation – APEC – meetings in Los Cabos, Mexico connecting APEC classrooms with the leaders of 21 Asia Pacific economies. The six-day APEC education initiative was produced October 22 to 27 from the “APEC Surf Café” - the first-ever student-run APEC broadcast center at an APEC summit. Students from Mexico, the U.S., Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Japan, Malaysia, Russia, Thailand and other Pacific economies met with leaders to discuss how APEC’s goal of “cooperation and consensus” can be realized in such a large and diverse network of economies and cultures. This special APEC-themed exhibit features highlights of their work and provides resources to help other students and educators become APEC Learners and Leaders.
APEC SURF CAFÉ features students with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, Mexico Secretary of Foreign Affairs Jorge Castaneda and First Lady Marta Sahagun de Fox. Click on Background to read more.
